This page contains spoilers for El Goonish Shive!
This page contains statistics about the appearances of the characters in the webcomic El Goonish Shive. It shows how often each character character appeared in the story, EGS:NP and sketchbook sections, as well as statistics about the different forms some characters appear in.
What constitutes an appearance?
I consider a character to have appeared in a comic if he or she is at least partially visible in one of the panels, or has off-screen dialogue. Appearances in fantasy sequences, thought-bubbles are also counted, as well as silhouetted appearances (if I know for certain who the obscured character was).
Whether minor characters are included is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Characters that have repeated appearances, dialogue and/or interaction with the main characters, or are particularly funny or interesting have a larger chance of being included.
How often are the statistics updated?
The statistics for story (and, when applicable, EGS:NP) comics are updated at the end of each storyline. There may sometimes be a delay depending on how busy I am with other things, but I will attempt as much as possible to update the appearance information as soon as possible after a storyline finishes. Sketchbook comics are updated whenever I have the time.
The statistics are currently up-to-date for:
| Section | Updated up to | Number of comics |
|---|---|---|
| Story | 2012-04-27 | 1433 |
| EGS:NP | 2010-02-19 | 179 |
| Sketchbook | 2012-03-29 | 625 |
| Total | 2237 |
Character of the day
1. Grace
Read about Grace at Shiveapedia
Grace is a shape shifter, one of several created in an attempt to manufacture the perfect assassin. One of her donors was intended to be a naturally strong male, but Dr. Sciuridae, after his daughter Grace Sciuridae died, replaced his DNA with that of the original Grace, resulting in the Grace we know and love.
Grace was created as a half-squirrel girl, but has the ability to assume any form she has previously been given by Tedd's transformation gun. Because one of her DNA donors was a Lespuko, she can combine forms into so-called legion forms.
Grace has several "brothers", the other lycanthropes, namely Hedge, Guineas, and Vlad. She considers Dr. Sciuridae her father, and Mr. Guyur her grandfather, and it turns out the latter in fact provided the genetic material for the Uryuom egg from which Grace was born.
2. Elliot
Read about Elliot at Shiveapedia
Elliot appeared in the first ever El Goonish Shive comic, and might be called EGS's main character. However, he recently lost the top spot in number of appearances to Grace.
Elliot is a master martial artist who attends the Anime Martial Arts dojo where he is instructed by Sensei Greg . He is not afraid of using his skills to help out those in need, which is how he met with both Tedd and Justin .
Elliot used to go out with fellow martial artist Nanase - a very superficial relationship at best - but broke up with her (or she broke up with him; actually it was more of a mutual break-uppage) after his long-time friend Sarah professed his love for him. He has been with Sarah ever since.
As Tedd's best friend, Elliot is not unaccustomed to tranformations. He has transformed into a cat using the transformation belt, and he spent some time as a girl during the beginning of the Sister arc, and also later when he discovered he could transform at will as a result of the dewitchery diamond, and again during Grace's birthday party.
Elliot attends school at Moperville North.
3. Tedd
Read about Tedd at Shiveapedia
Everybody's favourite pervert (yes, even Susan's) is another character that has been present right from the beginning. Although (usually) male, Tedd looks so androgynous that he started wearing special glasses he got from his dad so the bullies (eg. Tony) would be powerless against him. It didn't work. He met Elliot on the playground when the latter defended him against those bullies.
Interactions with his friends and his girlfriend Grace, as well as recent events, have caused him to gain a great deal more self-confidence. He even stopped wearing his glasses all the time.
Tedd attends school at Moperville North.
4. Ellen
Read about Ellen at Shiveapedia
Although Ellen had a few appearances as nothing more than a silhouette, she didn't really show up in the comic until after Elliot touched the Dewitchery Diamond. The diamond was supposed to turn Elliot back into a guy after he was stuck at female variant five for a month, which it did. It had the side effect of creating a female duplicate of Elliot, who goes by the name Ellen.
When Nioi entered this dimension during the Painted Black storyline, she commented that Ellen has a body that's older than her soul, which she aimed to correct by letting Ellen experience an alternate life in her dreams with the purpose of aging her soul. In this alternate life, Ellen met Nioi's duplicate Kaoli who was there for similar purposes. She had a relationship with Archie, which made her realize she's not quite as comfortable with being attracted to men as she thought she was.
Ellen recently started attending school at Moperville South.
5. Sarah
Read about Sarah at Shiveapedia
Sarah has been around since the early days of El Goonish Shive, but has sadly been granted less screentime than other first-timers Elliot and Tedd. This is probably because Sarah is arguably the most normal of all the EGS characters, earning her the (somewhat undeserved) nickname "Unremarkable Girl" among bunnies. She is a good friend of Susan.
Sarah attends Moperville North, and draws comics that feature Dan, strangely enough.
6. Nanase
Read about Nanase at Shiveapedia
Nanase is Tedd's cousin, and Elliot's former girlfriend. She takes martial arts classes together with Elliot and Justin, and met Susan in Paris where they learned magic, including the skill of using hammers. Nanase is Japanese.
Nanase has a very strict mother, and her father never steps in to help her. Fortunately, her sister Akiko is on her side. She attends school at Moperville South.
Since she is Japanese, her name should actually be written in kanji. My sources suggest this would be 狐七瀬 "Kitsune Nanase" (Japanese write names with the surname before the given name). Kitsune means "fox", and Nanase (when written with those characters) means "seven rapids" (rapids as in a river).
7. Susan
Read about Susan at Shiveapedia
The ever-cynical Susan was raised with a strong distrust of men because her father cheated on her mother leading to a divorce. Because she witnessed his father with another woman and was in fact the one who told her mother about it, she also has some repressed feelings of guilt about the wholle thing.
Susan uses her middle name, because her first name, Tiffany, makes her sound like a cheerleader. It's also because her first name was chosen by her father, and her middle name by her mother. This, and because her father cheated with a blond, is also why she dyes her hair dark blue.
Susan goes to school at Moperville North, where she is a good friend of Sarah, and met Nanase in France, where the two of them learned magic.
8. Justin
Read about Justin at Shiveapedia
Science-fiction and fantasy fan Justin was for a long time living out the old cliché of being friends with a girl, named Melissa, since childhood and then dating her. Unfortunately the fairy tale was distorted when Justin discovered he was gay.
After informing Melissa of this, she spread this information around, causing Justin to be bullied for it. When he got into a fight outside school, Elliot bailed him out. At Elliot's advice, Justin started taking martial arts classes to learn how to defend himself, and the two have been friends since.
Pretty much since they met, Justin has had a crush on Elliot, and may even be in love with him. Unfortunately, Elliot is not gay and could not return these feelings, leaving Justin to watch helplessly as Elliot went out first with Nanase and later Sarah.
Justin goes to school at Moperville South, and likes Star Trek. He works at a comic store. He is still frequently haunted by Melissa, who is convinced Justin's gayness is just a phase.
9. Dan
Unlike some other comics that break the fourth wall and include their authors on a regular basis, Dan's own appearances are limited to non-canon comics, mainly in the filler and NP sections. He also appeared in Sarah's sketch book.
10. Mr. Verres
Read about Mr. Verres at Shiveapedia
Tedd's father works for the government, and his main job is to cover up those things that the general populace doesn't need to know, such as the existence of aliens.
11. Noah
Read about Noah at Shiveapedia
Noah is a student at Moperville South and apparently the protégé of Mr. Raven. He occasionally takes on a superhero disguise to fight dragons and such; normal, everyday high school student stuff.
His first appearance was in during the "not a date at the mall" storyline in EGS:NP, and he made his intro in the main story comics a few months later as "The Child Left Behind", aka. the mysterious cloaked figure, although we didn't get confirmation that was him until years later.
He also appeared as the leader of Dan's party in the "Dan in the Mud" EGS:NP storyline.
12. Mr. Raven
Read about Mr. Raven at Shiveapedia
Mr. Raven is a history teacher at Moperville South, and also a half-immortal who hides his true appearance. He's the son of Chaos and the guardian of Noah.
13. Amanda
Amanda is Dr. Germahn's assistant. She's friends and roommates with Lisa.
Amanda frequently gets tricked into drinking one of Dr. Gehrman's concoctions, often resulting in her getten shrunken or transformed. She is discouraged by the lack of respect people have for her, although Dr. Germahn insists that he does respect her, and the fact that he regularly performs experiments on her is simply because he is a mad scientist.
14. Sensei Greg
Legend has it that after his girlfriend dumped him, Greg watched anime for 168 hours straight. Already a black belt in three disciplines, he was able to decipher the key to accessing the awesome power of a person's "ki", which usually involves participating in difficult, overly complex and fairly rediculous activities that shouldn't yield such fantastic results and yet somehow do. Greg founded the Anime-style Martial Arts Dojo based on those principles.
He still can't believe they cancelled the "Lucky Bunny Bounty Show".
15. Jeremy
Jeremy is a cat with hedgehog spines: a creature nature never intended. He lives with Tedd.
Jeremy likes catnip and is fond of Susan, and if Grace's Jeremy form is any indication, should be pretty powerful himself. If I were a ball of yarn I'd be trembling right now!
Jeremy has shown above average intelligence for a feline; when Susan was transformed to a male during Grace's birthday party, he managed to deduce it was her.
16. Hedge
Hedge is one of Grace's "brothers", one of the lycanthropes created in an attempt to create a perfect assasin. He is a shapeshifter whose form is based on a hedgehog. He was created from an Uryuom egg using 25% hedgehog and 75% human DNA, resulting in a "roaisol seyunolu", or lesser chimera.
After Grace escaped from Damien, the latter tasked Hedge with finding Grace. When he failed, he brought back Elliot so he wouldn't return empty handed. Hedge believed Elliot would be of interest to Damien since he believed Elliot was a shape shifter like them because Hedge had seen him in cat form.
After Damien's demise, Hedge was taken to a government institute where he, Guineas, and Vlad currently reside and are being tested to see if they are fit to be released into normal society.
17. Vlad
Vlad is one of Grace's "brothers", one of the lycanthropes created in an attempt to create the perfect assasin. He is the most complex shapeshifter created; although he can vaguely be described as a bat, his DNA sources included several bats, owls, hawks and even leopard DNA, in addition to human and Uryuom, which means Vlad is a "tulougol seyunolu", or "greater chimera", like Grace. It was hoped the Uryuom DNA would be enough to stabilise the transformation, but it wasn't; the one time Vlad tried to become human, he nearly killed himself.
As a result, Vlad remained in half-bat form all the time, and resented those who could become human. That is, until he was hit by Ellen's V5 beam, with more force behind it than usual, which made him human - and a woman!
Vlad was the most loyal of Damien's henchmen, and spread a rumour that he had a lust for blood, although that wasn't true.
Because of the risk involved in transforming, he has chosen to remain human, and currently goes by the name Vladia. He is in a government institution with Hedge and Guineas, being evaluated for fitness to return to society.
18. Lisa
Lisa is Amanda's roommate, and Dr. Germahn's attorney. She first appeared in EGS:NP before her appearance in the main comic.
She has an obsession with pajama pillow fights. Not that that's a bad thing. She appears to be lesbian and interested in Amanda, who is apparently completeley oblivious of that fact.
19. Damien
There's a prophecy, believed primarily by human/uryuom hybrid seyunolus, about the coming of an individual who would unify the seyunolu outcasts of the world. The prophecy is old, and can be translated many ways. The most common interpretation envisions the individual as a being of power, and a master of fire.
One group got tired of waiting for this person, and was willing to go so far as creating the person themselves. Damien was the result of this.
Damien didn't believe he was created. He believed he was a god, immortal. He planned to use Grace to breed additional shapeshifters similar to Grace, Hedge, Guineas and Vlad, the four of whom he held captive.
In the end, Damien would rather destroy himself (in the hopes of taking Grace with him) than accept the truth that he might not be what he thought he was.
That was the last we saw of Damien, except for a brief fantasy sequence of Elliot, where the latter envisions kicking the former off a cliff after being accused by Susan of being so helpful he would help his worst enemy.
20. Rhoda
Read about Rhoda at Shiveapedia
Rhoda is one of the members of Diane's gang at Moperville South, although one does get the impression that she doesn't really belong there. Certainly Lucy was looking at her quite condescendingly, but Diane has shown she cares about Rhoda.
Rhoda had several background and filler appearances as the previously unidentified "shy girl".
21. Guineas
Guineas is one of Grace's "brothers", one of the lycanthropes created in an attempt to create the perfect assassin, and former captive/henchman of Damien. He is a shapeshifter based on 50% human and 50% guinea pig DNA, which means he is "roaisol seyunolu", or lesser chimera. He prefers to stay in half-guinea pig form most of the time, even after discovering that women find his human form hot.
Although Guineas is often deemed slow-witted, this is probably not the case. Doesn't speak much, if at all.
He is currently in a government institute together with Hedge and Vlad, where they are being evaluated to see if they can be released back into society.
22. Catalina
Catalina is a (proud) member of Susan's feminist group, and frequently gets into trouble due to her temper and flamboyant personality.
23. Melissa
Read about Melissa at Shiveapedia
Melissa first appeared annoying the heck out of Justin because as his ex-girlfriend she was convinced being gay was "just a phase" for him. By telling her sister about Justin, she's responsible for the news about his sexual orientation coming out, which Justin has never forgiven her for.
She is currently dating Noah.
24. Abraham
Read about Abraham at Shiveapedia
Responsible for the original creation of the Dewitchery Diamond, Abraham felt it was his reponsibility to kill all abominations created by it, including Ellen, until Nanase convinced him otherwise.
25. Goo
Originally thought to have been one of Tedd's chemistry projects brought to life, the Goo turned out to be a demon nucleus send by Lord Tedd to kill the Tedd of this dimension. Beta Tedd warned Grace of this fact, as well as alerting the crew to the existence of Lord Tedd.
The Goo was killed by Ellen while she was in Venus form. She killed it by stepping on the demon nucleus. Alas poor Goo, we hardly knew ye. You will be missed. Or not.
26. Demonic Duck
Whenever people need a distraction, the Demonic Duck is around to help! Except when he is on strike, of course. Besides being used for distractions in the story, Dan has also used the duck to distract his readers when he was lagging behind with the updates.
It turns out he is not really demonic at all. People just assume he is because of how he looks.
27. Chaos
Read about Chaos at Shiveapedia
Chaos is simply the name Magus gave this immortal, who is actually Mr. Raven's mother.
28. Brownie
The Dunkel's cat was probably the least shocked when Ellen showed up. He responded as he usually does, by falling asleep.
Elliot suspects he has narcolepsy.
29. William

30. Minion
Minion is Dan's faithful assistant. Although he would prefer to be referred to as an administrative assistant, it turns out minions get paid more.
31. Gillian
See William.
32. Magus
Read about Magus at Shiveapedia
Magus, also known as the Mastermind, is a mysterious shadowy figure from an unknown other dimension who is determined to be reborn, and somehow having Ellen transform Elliot in a wave of emotion is crucial to this plan. Unfortunately the Immortal Guy and girl keep getting in the way. He is able to amplify a person's emotions, and refers to himself as Ellen's father. What this may mean, we can only guess.
33. Nioi
One of the underlings of Lord Tedd, Nioi came to our universe during Painted Black to find out if Dr. Sciuridae was alive here. In the process, she gave Ellen the infamous "nose-beep" which provided her with a past for her newly-born soul so that its age would match that of her body.
Unknown to Ellen at that time, Nioi had first-hand experience with the dewitchery diamond; after some experimentation she ended up accidentally creating Kaoli. After Ellen completed her second-life dreams, Nioi explained all this to her.
She calls the Tedd from our dimension Tedd-chan, and saved Grace when Damien blew himself up.
Random note: her name means "scent" in Japanese, which is written as 匂い.
34. Fire guy
No description available.
35. Dex
No description available.
36. Taurcanis Draco
No description available.
37. Dr. Sciuridae
Father of the original Grace, Dr. Sciuridae was so distraught after she died that he added her DNA to the mix when the shady organization he was working for was creating their fourth lycanthrope, which resulted in the creation of the Grace we all know and love.
Dr. Sciuridae was an informant for the government in infiltrating that organization, which is how he knew Tedd's father, whom he asked to take care of Grace.
38. Diane
Read about Diane at Shiveapedia
Diane is a student at Moperville South, whose main occupation is attracting boys so they can spend money on her. For this purpose, she hangs out with Lucy and Rhoda.
39. George
Read about George at Shiveapedia
Justin's colleague at the comic shop.
40. Dr. Germahn
Dr. Germahn is a stereotypical German scientist whose main function seems to be advancing the plot, whether it be through answering questions, providing recaps and explanations, or inventing cool toys that have no practical value until our heroes find some way to make use of them. He often tests his inventions on his assistant, Amanda, though this is usually without her consent or even prior knowledge.
41. Tony
Tony is a football player who often bullies Tedd for looking so androgynous. Unfortunately for him, Tedd has too many powerful friends; Tony's been beaten up by Elliot, Ellen and even Susan! Tony might actually be a little attracted to Tedd.
42. Agent Cranium
Agent Cranium works for the government together with Agent Wolf and Mr. Verres. She appears to be more levelheaded than Agent Wolf.
43. Writer's Block
Writer's Block is the feared adversary of all writers, and his appearance has caused agony for web comic fans all across the Internet. Dan is not imune to its effects, and the Writer's Block has frequently caused delays in the release of El Goonish Shive comics, which often results in the Writer's Block making an appearance in a filler comic. Even Susan was plagued by the writer's block once.
The Writer's Block considers himself superior to the Demonic Duck, since he actually causes fillers whereas the Duck only distracts people from them. But, as the Duck rightfully points out, people actually like the Demonic Duck.
44. Chika
No description available.
45. The Playah
T.C. thinks he's quite the ladies man, but in truth no sane Y-chromosome-lacking human being would even consider going out with him (not y-chromosone-having human beings, even if he would be interested). He may have gotten lucky with the Panicked Schoolgirl, but I doubt anything actually happened. He works as a clerk at the movie theatre, and is a year younger than the main cast.
46. Tanooki
Tanooki is an EGS fan who joined Dan in the game Retromud in the "Dan in the MUD" storyline. Together with their mysterious leader they battled many foes and occasionally dwarves.
47. Principal Verrückt
Principal Verrückt has a tough job. Keeping order at a school where your students include a magic user that likes Star Trek, a powerful martial artist and Tedd is not an easy task, not even with the power of murals! His latest idea is the introduction of a mandatory dresscode; whether this will bring order to the chaos or make things even worse remains to be seen. He's certainly succeeded in driving Susan up the wall.
He used to wear a wig that made him look like Hitler.
48. Matt Cohen
Matt Cohen is the head of the student council at Moperville North and was given the unenviable task of informing the rest of the students about the new uniform dress code. Poor fellow.
He has a part-time job delivering pizza, and may have a crush on Susan.
49. Jerry
Read about Jerry at Shiveapedia
Jerry is a 208-year-old immortal who dresses like Santa Claus and created The Hammers.
50. Carol
Read about Carol at Shiveapedia
Sarah's sister is a reporter interested in the paranormal. She's also a trained parachute jumper.
51. Boar
This boar was accidentally made giant by Rhoda when it attacked her.
Although Grace and Mr. Raven tried to save it, in the end there was no way to reason with it and Mr. Raven had to shoot it.
52. Little Nase
While this fairy doll looks like Nanase, she is actually linked to Susan's subconscious. Susan discovered she could summon Little Nase shortly before her awakening. Her resemblance to Nanase is because she was created when Susan was summoning various items, including one of Nanase's inactive fairy dolls.
53. Agent Wolf
Wolf is a government agent who works with Mr. Verres investigating paranormal occurrences such as dimension-shifting walrusses.
He is convinced that there are aliens, although Mr. Verres adamantly denies it. In fact, he believes Lavender is an alien. Preposterous!
54. Mrs. Dunkel
Mrs. Dunkel is Elliot's (and now Ellen's) mother. She's always wanted a daughter, and thanks to the events of the Sister storyline she has her wish. It is implied that she was forced to drop out of school when Elliot was born, and she seems doubly pleased that having another unexpected child will not result in a similar incident, since she didn't actually have to give birth to it.
She and her husband seem pretty laid back, taking pretty much everything in stride, such as their son suddenly turning female , and then later duplicating himself.
55. Immortal guy
Read about Immortal guy at Shiveapedia
Suffering from amnesia, this French immortal has absolutely no idea who he is, or why he's following Elliot around. Before his latest reset he and his counterpart were responsible for giving Nanase and Susan access to magic.
56. Immortal girl
Read about Immortal girl at Shiveapedia
See Immortal Guy.
57. Duck
Duck is a junior high student who hangs out with his friends to play collectible card games at Justin's store. His unusual nickname is derived from the hat he wears that makes him look like a duck (no relation to the Demonic Duck). Duck has the habit of using the word "gay" as a derogatory term for anything he doesn't like or deems uncool. Upon discovering that Justin is gay, he apologizes for this, stating that people shouldn't be looked down upon just because they're different. The X-Men have tought him well.
58. Akiko
Read about Akiko at Shiveapedia
Akiko is Nanase's sister.
Akiko's name is Japanese and her full name would be written as 狐明子 "Kitsune Akiko" (Japanese write the surname before the given name). Kitsune means "fox" and Akiko means "bright child".
59. Duck's friend 1
As one of Duck's friends, this guy regularly hangs around with him in the comic store where Justin works. He considers his "cleavage angel" magical gathering card the closest thing he has to a girlfriend.
60. Liz
Liz is a goth, a student at Moperville North and is highly skilled at not giving a crap.
61. Kaoli
Kaoli is the duplicate of Nioi, and like Ellen she was created by the dewitchery diamond. Like with Ellen, Nioi also bestowed a "Second Life" on Kaoli (presumably also via a magic nose beep) to age her soul so it would match her body. She had been putting off helping Kaoli because she didn't want her to experience the second life alone, and Ellen provided the solution. Kaoli is a very kind, friendly person, and made friends with Ellen right off the bat.
Presumably, Kaoli is still alive in Lord Tedd's dimension together with Nioi, although we do not know that for sure.
Random Note: Kaoli's name means "aroma" in Japanese. It is pretty much a synonym for nioi, and is written as 香り.
62. Mrs. Kitsune
The mother of Nanase and Akiko is very strict. I shudder to think what will happen when she finds out Nanase is Lesbian!
63. Lavender
Lavender is the personal assistant of Mr. Verres. Agent Wolf thinks she's an alien, but that's clearly nonsense.
64. Alice
Alice is the secretary of Dr. Germahn, and thinks Amanda is a doofus. And she's probably right.
65. Mr. Dunkel
Elliot's father is about as laid-back as his wife, if not more so. He likes to carry the newspaper around with him and re-read it multiple times throughout the day. His disciplinary methods seem a bit lax, but Elliot appears to have turned out fine anyway.
66. Lucy
Read about Lucy at Shiveapedia
Lucy is one of the girls in Diane's gang. She goes to school at Moperville South.
67. Bloodgrem

68. Sirleck

69. Melonpool
Melonpool is the main character of the comic Melonpool by Steve Troop. He appeared in puppet-form in the EGS:NP story "EGS-Con 2006" where he gave advice to Susan, and ended up fighting her over a disagreement on whether Deep Space Nine is better than the original series of Star Trek.
70. John Troutman
John Troutman is the author of the webcomic Basil Flint and Sporkman. John helped Sarah find Susan in the EGS:NP storyline "EGS-Con 2006". He was aided by a detective hat given to him by The Teague.
71. Archie
Archie is young Ellen's love interest in the Second Life dreams that resulted from Nioi's nose-beep. He is a greater chimera and has antennas in the back, which Kaoli thinks is weird.
When Ellen and Archie grew older in the second life dimension, they got into a relationship. Second Life Ellen slept with Archie, despite the fact that he as a greater chimera has no interest in sex. This made our Ellen realise she was still uncomfortable about being attracted to men, and led to her decision to pursue a relationship with Nanase in the main dimension.
72. Unusagi (Bunny-Goddess of Luck)
Unusagi is one of the characters of the cancelled anime "Lucky Bunny Bounty Show", Sensei Greg's favourite anime.
Unusagi is said to bring luck, which is why Travis hangs out with her. Unfortunately, luck doesn't necessarily mean good luck.
Her name pretty much means "luck bunny" in Japanese. As frightening as it may seem, that wouldn't even be an unlikely name for a character in an anime...
73. Mrs. Pompoms
Susan's mother was left by her husband years ago for another woman, which left her with a deep distrust of all men.
74. Eric
No description available.
75. Duck's friend 2
This guy is one of Duck's friends, and hangs out with him at the comic store where Justin works. He is a proud member of the Nanase fan club.
76. Susan's logical side
Unlike normal people who have moral battles between their good and evil side, Susan has battles between her curious and logical side. At least, she does when there are transgender parties at stake.
Susan's logical side is represented by a Vulcan version of Susan. Although initially she feels there is no logic in going to a transgender party, eventually she is persuaded by Susan's curious side that if Susan wouldn't go it'd be a missed opportunity for finding out if guys are really as bad as she believes they are.
77. Susan's curious side
Unlike normal people who have moral battles between their good and evil side, Susan has battles between her curious and logical side. At least, she does when there are transgender parties at stake.
Susan's curious side is represented by a catgirl version of Susan. She was in favour of going to the party because she was curious about what it would be like to be male.
78. Principal Washington
The principal of Moperville South doesn't have it easier than his counterpart at North, Principal Verrückt. His students include magic users, female duplicates, squirrels and unnecessarily mysterious guys with strange hair. On top of that, he also has some strange characters in his staff!
Despite all that, he appears to be a bit more level-headed than Principal Verrückt.
79. Mr. Alephnull
Mr. Alephnull is the math teacher at Moperville South, and he tried to solve the mystery of Grace and Ellen with maths, apparently accidentelly getting the correct result.
80. Gerald
No description available.
81. General Shade Tail
In the dimension of Lord Tedd, Grace Sciuridae, the daughter of Dr. Sciuridae didn't die. As a result, when the scientists created their final lycanthrope, instead of ending up with someone like our Grace, they ended up with Shade Tail as he was meant to be: male.
General Shade Tail appears to work together with Lord Tedd. Not much else is known about him at this point.
82. Djinn
The Djinn helped Dan get started with playing RetroMUD.
83. Arthur J. Arthur
No description available.
84. Science Teacher
The Science Teacher at Moperville North is a background character who was introduced early on but doesn't appear often. He seems frustrated with his job, though he appears to derive amusement from the sufferings of his students, and from the idea that he might actually care about them.
85. Sandi
No description available.
86. Lord Tedd
Not much is known about Lord Tedd, except that he is Tedd's alternate in what is sometimes referred to as the "alpha" dimension, and that he is out to kill all Tedds in all other dimensions. He sent a demon nucleus that become the Goo to kill our Tedd, and it's likely he also attempted to kill Beta Tedd at some point.
His precise motives remain unclear. Nioi, who is a servant (by choice) or Lord Tedd, suggested that we have many misconceptions about him.
87. Gypsy Woman
This gypsy shopkeeper sold the cursed game Goonmanji to Tedd.
88. Dex's fairy

This rat-like figure is a character from one of Dan's old comics from before El Goonish Shive. One consolation though: he did make at least this character chart.
Although this information does not appear in EGS, we know that his name is Mark, and that he is one of "three evil rat things", though none of them were actually evil. In the words of Dan himself: "His only defining characteristic was being zany and dressing like a hippy for some reason... originally, they all dressed in midieval garb for some reason. His one brother was a fencer, and the other was deathly afraid of bananas. I'm not sure why they were a mixture of reptiles and rats as opposed to just being rats, but there's a lot about those three that didn't make much sense."
